Not the hero kind, the DIY kind. Lately I have been cruising Craigslist is search of furniture that is in need of some TLC, and by that I mean spray paint. The pieces have to be made of solid wood and not have much structural damage. You would not believe how many great things I have found. My most recent pieces were two night stands. They are not matching and did not even come from the same home.
Okay, confession time,
I am REALLY bad at remembering to
take before pictures.
But for the benefit of my readers I am
going to commit to taking before, during and after pictures.
I promise.
But for this piece, here is the end result. Before I rescued her, she lived outside under a carport, and was NOT meeting her full potential as a night stand. Now she is happily living beside my bed.
I cannot wait to fill her with books and, of course, a plant.
The other one that I found was treated better in its former home. The person was asking $20 for it. I thought it was a little much, but on the way to get this piece I stopped at a friends house and ended up cutting both her and her husband’s hair. They paid me $20, so I just passed it on and got a great little nightstand. I did actually take a before picture of this!

Yukky white nobs and paint brush lines. |

After the paint remover got a hold of her. |
So in all desperate move to recover the top of this beast, I purchased Iron on Real Wood Veneer.

It worked like a charm! |
After a coat (or 2) of Krylon Ruddy Brown Primer and a few coats for Krylon Leather Brown Spray paint, she looks like a real beauty hanging out beside my bed. I also added new hardware that I spray painted black to both pieces.
Don’t you think everything looks better with a little spray paint and a plant on it?
Now to search for and rescue a head board…
Good job! It looks fantastic!
